Medigap Plan G

While Medicare covers many medical costs, there are some “gaps” in the insurance that supplement policies cover.

These supplement policies are called Medigap. There are ten Medigap policies—A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, and N. Each provides the patient with various benefits.

Here, we’ll be discussing Medigap Plan G.

What Does Plan G Offer Coverage For?

Medigap Plan G offers you coverage for the following:

  • Part A hospital costs and coinsurance payments
  • Part B coinsurance or copayments
  • The first three pints of blood in the event of you needing a transfusion
  • Part A hospice care
  • Care in a skilled nursing facility
  • Deductible payments for Part A that you need to meet before Medicare covers healthcare
  • 80% of the total billed medical fees in case of a health emergency while you’re traveling.

Important Information About Medigap Policies

Here are a few pointers that you need to keep in mind before purchasing a policy:

Private healthcare providers can charge an amount over the Medicare-approved fees for any Medigap policy. Therefore, you should consider various providers to find a cost-effective plan.

Plans C, D, F, and G all offer similar benefits, but it’s best that you consult with an insurance expert, like Scott Sims Insurance, before deciding on the plan best for you.

Also, if you’re covered by Medicare Advantage, you cannot purchase a Medigap policy. Only individuals enrolled in Original Medicare (Parts A and B) are eligible for Medigap.

And, you’ll need to pay a monthly premium for your Medigap policy. This premium will be in addition to the amount you already pay every month for Medicare Part B.
