Medigap Plan F

Medicare’s Supplement Plans are called Medigap. These programs provide coverage for Original Medicare’s copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.

There are ten Medigap policies in total: A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, and N.

Here, we’ll be discussing Medigap Plan F.

What Benefits Does Medigap Plan F Offer You?

Each Medigap policy offers you different benefits. Plan A is the most basic, but Plan F is the most comprehensive.

Here’s what Medigap Plan F covers:

  • Part A hospital costs and coinsurance payments
  • Part B coinsurance or copayments
  • The first three pints of blood in case you require a transfusion
  • Part A hospice care
  • Treatment in a skilled nursing facility
  • Deductible payments for Part A that you have to meet before Original Medicare provides you with coverage for any medical treatments
  • Deductible payments for Part B
  • Excess charges you may encounter with Part B. Excess charges represent the amount a private insurance provider can charge you over the fees approved by Medicare.
  • 80% coverage for your medical bills if you encounter an emergency when you’re in a foreign country.

Factors To Keep In Mind Before Purchasing Plan F

Plans C and F are the only Medigap plans that provide coverage for the Part B deductible. However, because of this, these two plans are only available to those who became eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020. If you do not qualify for Plan F, a good alternative is Plan G.

Also, if you’ve purchased a Medicare Advantage plan, you can’t opt for Medigap unless you switch back to Original Medicare.
